This is a picture of when i made the basketball team in 8th grade. I was such a butterball - don't you agree???
Ok so i was in 8th grade at Coose Middle School, where i attended Jr. High. We call it "Middle School" in Georgia. Anyway, one of the things i really really wanted in Jr. High was to make the basketball team. In 8th grade, somehow i DID make it only to most of the season sit the bench, but its all good. One particular day for our practice time, there was a planned scrimmage against our girls team. You know how it is, both teams needed to get some sort of idea of how things would look running your plays against a different team and that kind of thing. What makes this so funny to me though, is the day of the scrimmage, one of the girls from the basketball team (April Davis) decided that she would come to school that day and talk trash to us.
Talk trash = making fun; saying we won't win; saying we're not very good; she's better
So, to make a long story a bit shorter, April was the 2nd string Center for the girls team and i was the 2nd string Center for the guys team. So all day i'm thinking, "i can't wait to play against her and stuff the ball in her face." Don't worry, i wasn't bitter. So in the midst of her saying all sorts of things about our team and all of us dudes getting frustrated, we were all ready to play, especially against her. Well, so when our second string goes into the game - the guys team is up by a pretty good amount. Here it is though, the match up i've been waiting for. Me vs. April Davis and i could hardly wait to do something good against her so she would eat her words again. So, i post up and yell for the ball from our shooting guard (Josh Teems) and sure enough i have the ball and i'm about to try a turn around jump shot. Now, before i finish this moment, one thing you HAVE to know about me is that i am without a doubt blind without my glasses or my contacts in. So, i get the ball and i do the turn around jump shot deal. Things are looking good, i feel good about the shot. Just as i released the ball from my fingertips two things happen. 1. i yell at April - "In YOUR face - WOO HOO!" 2. In mid - air she knocks my glasses completely off of my face to where i can't see much of anything. So in my mind the ball looks like it is going right into the net, i'm feeling good about it, and i felt like i just scored on the ONE girl that i wanted to and really HAD to. Can you guess what happens?
That's right - the ball that looked like it was going in the hoop sailed completely OVER the goal and literally everyone on the court just froze and had looks on their faces like, "What in the world was that?" The embarassing part; i thought it was going in AND it was against a girl. Sad times.
